Anza-Borrego North : Borrego Palm Canyon

The hiking trail that leads up Palm Canyon to the Borrego Palm Oasis is the most popular hiking route in all of Anza-Borrego State Park.  It is easily assessable from paved roadways and is just minutes from Borrego Springs, starting at the west end of the Park's Borrego Palm Campground.

The Borrego Palm Canyon Trail has many things going for it that make it a excellent destination for a day hike.

  • It is one of the best locations in Anza-Borrego to catch a glimpse of desert bighorn sheep.

  • It is excellent habitat for mammals and lizards.

  • The Oasis is located at a good water source.

  • The moisture in the wash makes it an excellent place to see desert plants and wildflowers in springtime.

  • It is one of very few places where you can see fish in the Anza-Borrego Desert.  There is a small pupfish pond adjacent to the starting point of the trail.
