About this Book - by the author
I wrote this book with hikers and naturalists in mind—especially parents who are teaching their young children about the importance of natural history, ecosystems, and protecting the plants and animals that inhabit them. One should be able to snap a picture on their phone and compare that with a photo in the book and its accompanying description. All photos are in high resolution and will blow up nicely on a laptop.

Please enjoy.  - Lee

ABOUT DR. LEE GRISMER
For his most recent publication, Dr. Grismer comes back to the place where he started, with the hopes it will inspire others to learn about the beauty and complexity of nature. Dr. Lee Grismer's interest in herpetology began when he was a boy exploring the desert lands of Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, always fascinated by the reptiles and amphibians he found there.

In his professional career, Dr. Grismer spent twenty years on the islands and mainland of Baja California researching the reptiles and amphibians to be found there. His research in Baja resulted in the most comprehensive book on the topic, Amphibians and Reptiles of Baja California. In more recent decades he has focused on Southeast Asia, with his research resulting in two more books, Amphibians and Reptiles of the Seribuat Archipelago, and Lizards of  Peninsular Malaysia, Singapore and their Adjacent Archipelagos.

In all of his work, Dr. Grismer has been acclaimed as one of the best photographers of reptiles and amphibians in the entire world. In fact, he has been called exactly that, by eminent researcher Gordon H. Rodda, in Lizards of the World: Natural History and Taxon Accounts. Dr. Rodda says, "The spectacular photographs displayed herein are largely the work of Dr. Lee

Thank you so much to Dr. Grismer and ABDNHA for sending this lovely book to me! I am thrilled with the beautiful photos. I saw a toad last year in May in Palm Canyon that I can now identify. This was truly a special gift and a vision of so many wonderful creatures that I have not seen, but will look for (as well as try to avoid the venomous ones!). Sincerely, Erica Buhrmann
