Borrego Rock and Gem Club
Meeting Minutes, 8 May 2010

A BRAG meeting was held on May 8, 2010 at the ABDNHA meeting room. A field trip was conducted directly after the meeting.

1. There were ten persons in attendance.

2. The treasurer's report was read. We have a positive balance.

3. The April meeting minutes were accepted with no changes.

4. The last field trip was attended by two diehard members, Bob and Jim. They visited the lepidolite mine and while they were in the field, they come upon a person who has two operating gold mines, so Bob, being shy, asked could the club do a visit. And the answer was yes. Bob will pursue the visit for next season.

5. The Borrego Paleontology group donated a large quantity of polishing grit to the BRAG. Thanks, Paleo!

6. Wyatt King reported on the presentation he made at his school on the MOHS hardness scale. Chuck said that the presentation was well received by all. He asked if we could present additional topics to the students. Linda G. is looking into that.

7. Bob is working on a method by which dues could be decreased for families. This could increase our membership. He will keep us posted.

8. Bernie suggested that we consider a tour of the camel dairy. They have tours available and the owner apparently is carving in quartz, thus the rock connection.

9. Mention was made that we might plan a trip to San Diego Natural History Museum during the summer. They periodically have a free admission on Tuesday.

10. Linda and some friends had a pleasant camping experience at Pebble Terrace, where they found fossils. They also managed to fit in a side trip to Quartzite and the Oasis Bookstore.

11. Ten members made a field trip to Anza's Angel (Borrego Golfer), located on the Seley Ranch property. Unexpectedly, Mr Seley was there when we arrived and personally guided us to the best parking location. Thanks Mr Seley! Check out the photo of the BRAG angels, who made the hike.

12. The next scheduled meeting will be held at the ABDNA meeting room on Saturday, October 9, 2010. Have a happy and safe summer.
