Borrego Rock and Gem Club
Meeting Minutes, 9 January 2010

1. Treasurers’ report-There is $762 in our BRAG account, with dues still coming in. BRAG dues are $16 for the year. Dues run January to January. Make check out to ABDNHA, and put BRAG membership on the check.

2. Last month’s field trip was to look at ichnites and geology in the Split Mountain area. Paul Remeika accompanied the group and provided expert guidance and information. Thanks Paul.

3. This month’s field trip will be to Quartzite for the annual Gem and Mineral Show. Some members are planning to RV on Jan 19 or 20 and stay until the weekend. Others expressed interest in day tripping. Bob V. will be looking for a new 18 inch blade to replace the worn blade in our large rock saw.

4. Another field trip is scheduled for January 16 to the tourmaline mine tailings that are at Lake Henshaw. We will meet at the Lake Henshaw General Store on January 16 at 10:00 AM. A separate Email will be sent soliciting interest in this trip.

5. Pebble Terrace, near Blythe is the proposed field trip for February. Bob V. will pre-run and bring rock samples to the next meeting.

6. FYI. A meteorite collecting show, (meteorite men), will appear on the Science Channel on January 20, 2010. Some members have viewed videos made by the show’s producers and enjoyed them.

7. A quiet celebration with a small cake and candle was held for Herr Friedrich Mohs, (1773-1839), creator of the Mohs Scale of Mineral Hardness. Happy Birthday, Herr Mohs.

8. The next meeting is Saturday, February 13, 2010 at 10:00 AM at the Nature Center.
