Anza-Borrego Central: Driving & Hiking: Palo Verde Wash
Palo Verde Wash
The road, which is characterized by deep sand, starts at County Road S-22 and goes straight to Benson Dry Lake at the Ocotillo Wells State Vehicular Recreation Area on Highway 78. It crosses Short Wash which can be taken west to Fonts Point, the Cut Across Trail which can be taken southwest to Borrego Mountain or east to Tule Wash at Highway 86.
Near S-22 in spring, the yellow blossoms of the Palo Verde trees are attractive when they appear in late spring or early summer.
