Anza-Borrego Central: Driving & Hiking: Arroyo Salado

Seventeen Palms Oasis near Arroyo Salado Wash
The largest, and most desolate, part of the Anza-Borrego Desert region extends from the Borrego Badlands, just east of the Pegleg Monument, and across the Salton Trough to the Salton Sea. While a few places attract hikers, those with 4-wheel drive vehicles find much to enjoy in the area's long washes and broad fields.
From County Road S-22, Arroyoa Salado Wash can be followed south to Highway 86 near the Ocotillo Wells State Vehicular Recreation Area. This drive is strictly for high-clearance vehicles. Points of interest along the way include Beaty's Icebox on the Truckhaven Trail, 17 Palms Oasis, Five Palms Springs Oasis, Una Palma Oasis, Cut Across Trail, Basin Watch, and Pumpkin Patch.
