While not a major food source, the seeds of Fringe Amaranth were gathered by the Cahuilla and ground into a mush.
Look for reddish fields of the Fringe Amaranth in the desert and mountain valleys after a summer rain. The flowers are small but long-lasting.
Fringe Amaranth is a member of the Amaranth family.
