This hand-sized beginner-level book covers wildflowers found in the Colorado and Mojave deserts from low to high elevations. Organized by plant color, it describes more than 240 species with 220 new photos (most of them by Jon Mark Stewart) and 123 detailed drawings. The editors cite Jepson as the main source for their revisions. The names of plants and their families are given in English with the Latin in parentheses.
This is a revision of and improvement to Munz’s California Desert Wildflowers published in 1962 with fewer (96) color photographs and more (172) line drawings. The new edition not only reflects changes in botanical scholarship but also advancements in photography. Be sure to read the introductory essays by Munz and Robert Ornduff.
